Tulong Kabataan launches Balik-Eskwela Brigade
Tulong Kabataan Volunteer Network, the widest youth-led relief effort in the country, launched its Balik-Eskwela Brigade operations today, at the Manuel A. Roxas High School in Quezon City through a school supplies distribution activity.
The Balik-Eskwela Brigade is geared towards assisting students who were severely affected by the flooding. It aims to help them ease back to school by supplying them with the immediate material needs such as school supplies and then facilitating art therapy sessions and medical missions to address psychosocial and health needs.
“There is a need to address the immediate, physical needs of our kababayans during relief operations, but Tulong Kabataan also recognizes that there is more to helping them than just providing material needs,” said Tulong Kabataan national coordinator Vencer Crisostomo.
The Brigade also plays on the idea that even though most student volunteers are back in school, they can still continue and sustain their involvement in Tulong Kabataan’s long-term rehabilitation efforts by collecting donations and school supplies within their schools while also coordinating with their schools for more community involvement in different areas.
In the past five days, Tulong Kabataan’s 5,000-strong volunteer network has already reached over 30,000 flood victims.###
