Proclamation 1959 has GMA hitting several birds with one stone
Kabataan Partylist Representative Raymond “Mong” Palatino today said that Pres. Gloria Arroyo’s declaration of Martial Law in Maguindanao has her “hitting several birds with one stone.”
“Arroyo is one clever tactician and sharpshooter. By declaring Martial Law in Maguindanao, Arroyo has just set-up a veritable white-wash to exonerate the Ampatuans. She also now seems to be testing the waters and gauging public reaction for martial law, and preparing for a ‘GMA forever’ scenario,” the young opposition solon said.
“Proclamation 1959 is designed to fail. The Ampatuans were charged with rebellion, a charge that would be difficult to prove against the Ampatuans who have never bitten the hand that has fed them for so many years,” he said.
The young solon also said the declaration of Martial Law in Maguindanao is also a ‘legal experiment’ by the President.
“Arroyo is tinkering with her constitutional powers to see if she could get away with it in case she declares martial rule nationwide. This is highly possible since still has so many tricks up her sleeve. Just when we think we’ve hit rock bottom, GMA proves us wrong and files her certificate of candidacy. A week after, she declares martial law. Arroyo could very well use and abuse the volatile and violent political situation as basis for declaring martial law nationwide before the elections. ”
Meanwhile, Palatino said holding a joint session to revoke Proclamation 1959 would be a “very meaningful Christmas gift to democracy-loving Filipinos.
“I may not have experienced the horrors of martial law first-hand, I may be young but my colleagues are old enough to remember how martial law stripped us of our democratic rights and civil liberties. We urge members of Congress to be a good example to our freedom-loving youth and exercise their power to revoke Proclamation 1959,” he said. ###

Are you pro-private armies in Mindanao? Do you you want arms to proliferate in the south?
I am definitely not a supporter of President Arroyo, but cmon, if you were in her place what would you do? It is easy to speculate that her motive is different but what can you suggest to solve the problem in Mindanao?
I think what you should do is device plans/solutions, and not just criticize. I too have been a product of UP and a supporter of equity and equality until now. But I noticed, lahat na lang ng ginawa ng gobyerno mali. Wala ng ginawang tama. Puro lang kontra pero wala namang concrete plans that are being laid or suggested in place of what you are negating.
Ano ba talaga ang gusto nating mangyari? As my representative in Congress, I think you could do better than criticize.
Do you think you can get the arms of the Ampatuans if you don’t declare Martial Law in Maguindanao? Do you the massacre is Gloria’s idea to declare martial rule?

Magagawa lahat yan nang walang martial law. Ang issue ay mass murder hindi rebellion. In the first place, ang gobyerno ang nagbigay ng armas at nagbigay ng legal existence sa private armies na yan.

Why are you so afraid of Martial Law? The time is different! We have technology, Twitter, Facebook, cellphones to communicate.
If ever Pres. GMA will abuse this declaration, then we can easily mass up and fight. Db? Isang text lang or Facebook or Twitter message lang, we can communicate to fight na.
As a good citizen, living a fair life, working a decent job, I believe I have nothing to be afraid of. Matakot ka kung may kasalanan ka.

totoo, wala ka talagang dapat ikatakot kung wala kang nakikitang mali sa ginagawa ng gobyerno kasi yan ang tipo ng tao na gustung gusto nila, yung walang pakialam anumang bilyon ang nakawin nila, anumang kagaguhan ang gawin nila basta ang tao ay isang “good citizen, living a fair life, working a decent job”. parang ang pagbabago ay mahuhulog na lang sa langit.

Halatang halata na ginagamit ni GMA ang sitwasyon para pag-eksperimentuhan ang martial law, kasi alam nito na magiging useful ito habang lumalapit ang panahong bababa na sila sa pwesto at makakasuhan na sila ng mamamayan. at ito ay hindi speculation tulad ng sinasabi mo. speculation din noon na tatakbo bilang congresswoman si GMA sa pampanga, at nagkatotoo ito. ano ka ba, para ka namang hindi nakatira sa pilipinas in the last 9 years! di mo pa kilala si GMA at ang pattern ng kanyang mga gawain?

Ang tanong ko sa kabataan party list at sa mga taga suporta nito. Ngayon na tinangal na ang martial law masasabi ba ng kabataan party list na tama sila sa hinala nila na may masamang balak si gloria sa maguindanao at ibang parte ng pilipinas? Dahil binawi ang martial law pruweba ba ito na may masamang balak si gloria dahil nabawi ito?
