Attached herewith is the letter of complaint we filed before the Commission on Elections this morning with regard to the “poison letters”, death threats and suspected military harassment of Kabataan Partylist’s nominees, members and supporters. We have asked the Comelec to urgently investigate this matter.

We have reason to suspect military involvement and harassment in these electoral-related incidents. We condemn these acts of harassment and fear for the lives and safety of our nominees, members and supporters.

All letters were received via mail post from a certain group which calls itself “Samahan Kontra Korupsyon”. All letters allude to progressive patylists and Makabayan senatorial bets as ‘candidates of the NPA (New People’s Army)’ and impart veiled threats to the lives and well-beings of the receivers. Attached herewith are supporting documents and scanned copies of the original letters.

Yesterday, our teams on the filed have also monitored the posting of letter-sized posters with the markings,

” Huwag Iboto
Mga Kandidato ng NPA
Satur Ocampo           Liza Maza
Bayan Muna              Anakpawis
Gabriela                    Kabataan
Akap Bata                 ACT Teachers
COURAGE                Katribu”

Attached is a sample of the poster.

Castillo, our third nominee, now seriously fears for her security as she had received a particularly sinister death threat that is different from the other letters that we have so far gathered. Castillo, a known human rights lawyer in the Eastern Visayas, received a death threat with a black ribbon mailed to her residence in Catbalogan, Samar last April 16. The letter was sent via post by a certain Ricardo Picardal of Torongan, Samar.

We have also monitored elements of the military campaigning and holding radio interviews against her. We have recorded one such interview and submitted it also to the Comelec as evidence. Attached herewith is the recording.

We maintain that KABATAAN Partylist is a legitimate and duly accredited partylist group. We are presently the sole youth representative in the House of Representatives and have a clean and transparent record of public service to speak of.

With the Filipino youth, we vow to work and fight for clean and honest elections on May 10 and to uphold the sanctity of the youth and people’s votes..

For the Filipino youth,

(Sgd.)Mark Louie Aquino
Second Nominee

(Sgd.) Kathrina Castillo
Third Nominee
