As 45th anniversary of Martial Law comes, youth party reminds: ‘The people remember the 21st night of September’

Thursday, September 21, 2017

Kabataan Party-list marches with various youth and people’s groups today to remind the government that the nation has not forgotten of the horrors and struggles during Marcos’ martial law. This is in the face of the continuing attacks on the youth and the Filipino people by the fascist US-Duterte regime.

“The people remember the 21st of September. The fight is far from over. Trembling in fear, Duterte is deploying tactic after dirty tactic to try to stifle the protests,” Kabataan Partylist Rep. Sarah Elago said.

“The government has taken a step backward. Duterte’s fetishes are pointing toward another dictatorship with his wars against the people,” Elago added.

Elago pertains to the three “wars” that the US-Duterte have started, and that she says he cannot win – the war on drugs, the war against peasants and rebel groups under Oplan Kapayapaan, and the war against the Moro and Lumad people under martial law in Mindanao.

“These have resulted to killings left and right,” the solon said. Oplan Tokhang and Double Barrel have claimed around 12,000 civilians, while rights group Karapatan has documented 420,046 victims of forced evacuation, 891 victims of illegal arrest, and 357, 754 victims of aerial bombardment and indiscriminate gunfire.

“Duterte is moving to open fascist rule and crippling democracy, in the US’ desperate demand to maintain imperialist hegemony in the nation and its resources in the face of a multi-polar world. It only says one thing – the state is crumbling from the inside,” Elago added.

“The people remember the 21st of September – especially the heroes who risked life and limb and fought to change the minds of pretenders, and combat Marcos’ rule. The people, braver than ever, will combat the onset of another dictatorship, and call for justice and a better future for all,” Elago concluded.

The youth party is set to conduct a program at Mendiola and join the big people’s protest later at Luneta in the afternoon. ###
