Justice for Marvin! Kabataan Party-list cries justice for hazed-to-death student

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Kabataan Party-list condoles with the family, friends, and colleagues of San Beda College of Law Student Marvin Reglos for his most unwanted death. We pray that strength and courage be granted to his loved ones in this difficult time.

Based on police reports, Marvin Reglos’ death is allegedly due to fraternity hazing. Decisive actions should be immediately executed by the proper authorities to exact justice for Marvin.

Kabataan Party-list condemns this senseless violence that negates the noble objectives of many fraternities. Kabataan Party-list poses a reminder to such brotherhoods of their progressive history and orientation, which commonly adhere to the service of the people. We call on other fraternities to shun violence and to continue the tradition of excellence which they should be known for. We urge them to channel their efforts to more pressing concerns in and out of the campus.

Fraternities, together with the rest of the youth, should unite against the true killers of their ranks – a social system that breeds human rights violations, poverty, and other injustices. The youth must work against this systemic violence, not contribute to its reproduction.

We call on the members of the fraternity involved to bring to justice those who are responsible. We call on all fraternities, students, faculty, and the general public to extend greatest possible support for the immediate resolution and justice to Marvin’s death. ###
