Students challenge presidentiables to take stand
Student leaders from all 21 Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) campuses and branches nationwide gathered in Manila today to express system-wide unity against the proposed 1,700 percent tuition hike in the university.
Student councils from PUP campuses and branches in Manila, Quezon City, San Juan, Taguig, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Quezon, Camarines Sur, Batangas, Cavite, Oriental Mindoro and Laguna announced in a press conference today that they are gearing for nationwide protests against the tuition hike.

Makabayan senatorial bet and Nacionalista Party guest candidate Satur Ocampo today expressed full support to the ongoing protest of students against the proposed 2,000 percent tuition hike at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP).

Kabataan Partylist challenges presidentiables to take stand vs PUP tuition increase
Youth organizations led by Kabataan Partylist today challenged presidential aspirants to take a stand against the impending 2,000 percent tuition increase in the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP).
There is a pending proposal to increase PUP tuition from P12 per unit to P200 per unit. The proposed increase is scheduled to be discussed in the PUP Board of Regents meeting on March 29.

Increase will affect 50,000 poor enrollees next semester
Around 1,000 students from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines today walked out of their classes to protest the proposed almost 2,000 percent tuition hike in the University.
According to Donna Pascual, PUP Student Regent, there is a proposal to increase PUP tuition from P12 per unit to P200 per unit. “The increase will take effect next semester when classes open and is expected to affect all incoming freshmen in the university,” Pascual said.

March 17, 2010 - Kabataan Partylist Representative Raymond “Mong” Palatino today lamented the Supreme Court decision allowing Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to appoint the next Chief Justice. Palatino.
Kabataan Partylist, together with law students from the University of the Philippines College of Law, held a protest rally inside the campus today.
“We are worried about the Supreme Court decision because it would mean Arroyo can now control the Supreme Court. An Arroyo-appointment would taint the sanctity and independence of the high court. Any appointment she makes will be flawed and suspect.”

Kabataan Partylist Rep. Raymond ‘Mong’ Palatino today announced that so far they have documented 40 schools violating “no graduation fee policy” in elementary and high schools, as per Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 13, s. 2010 or the Guidelines on Graduation Rites.
Palatino said that they have received hundreds of complaints from parents since they launched their complaint hotline two days ago.
“Our hotline has been ringing non-stop, proof that the DepEd order is not being implemented,” Palatino said.
