2010 polls a fresh start for post-Edsa Dos youth - solon

20 January 2010

As the nation commemorates the ninth 9th anniversary of EDSA People Power 2, Kabataan Party-list Representative Mong Palatino appealed to the Filipino youth to preserve and relive the legacy of People Power.

Palatino, an EDSA Dos veteran, said that the vision and essence of the uprising was to achieve moral, political, economic, and cultural change. “EDSA Dos was a struggle against corruption and bad governance. It showcased the collective action of the Filipino people, especially the youth, who had had enough and were craving for change.”

The young solon said that it is “unfortunate” that the youth of today did not experience the “glory that was EDSA.”

“Filipino youths belonging to age bracket of 18 to 25 have known no other government but Arroyo’s. Disillusionment among the youth is widespread. The 2010 elections, for sure, will serve as a manifestation of the youth’s strong criticism of nine years of the Arroyo regime.”

Palatino appealed to post-EDSA Dos youths to “relive the spirit of the uprising alive.”

“Our youth should transform their disillusionment to action. The 2010 polls is an opportunity for the youth to once again take up its significant role in society and fight for that most-coveted change in governance. We urge the youth to be vigilant and actively participate in the upcoming polls.” ###
