10 Reasons Why We Should Vote for Kabataan Partylist on May 10

1. KABATAAN is the first and only youth partylist in Congress today.

Kabataan Partylist is the only voice and representation the youth sector has in the House of the Representative. Kabataan’s election in Congress is also a first since partylist elections was first held in 1998.

2. KABATAAN is against tuition hike and exorbitant school fees.

Kabataan Partylist has been in the forefront of the campaign against skyrocketing tuition increases and dubious school fees. Even before our election to Congress, Kabataan Partylist has represented and intervened for student interest in tuition hike consultations in various schools, in hearing and dialogues conducted by the CHED, DepED and the House of Representatives.

3. KABATAAN stands for the right of every Filipino to education

Kabataan Partylist since its inception has vigorously fought for greater state subsidy for education at all levels. We have lobbied untiringly for additional budget for education during budget hearings in Congress and exposed and rebuffed plans to reduce the education budget. We led the campaign for the automatic allocation of an equivalent of 6 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product to education spending as prescribed by UNESCO.

Kabataan’s bill against “No-permit, no-exam” policy (House Bill No. 6799) was also instrumental in the recent issuance of a similar resolution by CHED.

4. KABATAAN pushes for decent and adequate jobs for all new graduates and the protection of workers’ rights.

Kabataan Partylist is calling for a comprehensive review of existing policies on education and labor and a reversal of the ‘labor export policy’ which has been used by the government to diffuse mounting unemployment problems at the expense of the country’s own stable growth and development.

Kabataan is also the first one to file a comprehensive bill on the protection of rights and welfare of employees in the Business Processing and Outsourcing (BPO) industry which includes call centers (House Bill No. 6921)

5. KABATAAN is against corruption and works for the immediate prosecution of corrupt government officials at all levels

Kabataan Partylist has exposed corruption scandals in DepEd and other national and local government agencies. We have been consistent in our demand for Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to step down and be made accountable for all the serious cases of corruption, vote rigging and human rights violations under her watch as president.

6. KABATAAN is pro-environment.

Kabataan Partylist has been active in different campaigns for environmental protection – from anti-mining and logging campaigns, to efforts to save Laguna Lake, anti-dam initiatives and in filling our own bill against the use of styrofoam in schools (House Bill No. 6798)

7. KABATAAN brings out the spirit of voluntarism among Filipino youth.

Kabataan Partylist is one of the main organizations that put up Tulong Kabataan, a youth-led relief initiative for victims of man-made and natural disasters. Tulong Kabataan was able to help 20,000 families affected by typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng

8. KABATAAN promotes the holistic development of young Filipinos.

Other than promoting youth involvement in government decision making processes, Kabataan Partylist works for the creation of new and innovative programs in sports, education, music and the arts that will further hone the skills and talents of young Filipinos.

9. KABATAAN is also for the not-so-young.

While KABATAAN is a sectoral youth party that primarily caters to young Filipinos, we have been at the forefront of different issues affecting other sectors and the nation in general.

10. KABATAAN means politics of change.

In this time of corrupt governance and political unrest, the nation needs young, vibrant and innovative minds that will restore integrity and morality in governance and lead the nation to genuine progress and social change. This is what Kabataan Partylist stands for.
