CAMPAIGNS AND ISSUES

Voter Registration Extension
On the basis of KABATAAN Party-list’s petition to the Supreme Court, the COMELEC was instructed to resume voter registration to give thousands of youths and first-time voters a chance to register. In just five days last December, around 300,000 new voters were given the chance to vote this coming May.

Tulong Kabataan
With the initiative and help from other youth and student organizations, KABATAAN Party-list was able to help more than 40,000 families affected by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng. Thousands of youths volunteered in relief, rehabilitation, and rescue missions nationwide.

Fighting for a higher education budget and against continuing tuition and other fee increases in schools.

LEGISLATION

HOUSE BILLS
‘Anti-No Permit, No Exam’ Policy [HB 6799] to prevent students from being barred from taking exams just because they are unable to pay their tuition and other fees on time.
Due to this bill, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) was pushed into immediately issuing a memorandum which forbids the ‘no permit, no exam’ policy in schools and universities nationwide. Yet another victory for students and parents!
BPO Workers’ Welfare and Protection Act of 2009 [HB 6921] which aims to protect the rights, welfare, and health of millions of call-center agents and others working in the Business Process Outsourcing industry. Also, to give them the benefits they justly deserve.
SK Reform Act of 2009 [HB 6870] which aims to reform and strengthen the national and local formations of the Sangguinang Kabataan.
Public Libraries Bill [HB 6770] which aims to establish modern public libraries in all municipalities nationwide.
Free Special Education Bill [HB 6771] which aims to give free and appropriate education to all youths with disabilities and special needs.
Styrofoam Ban Act of 2009 [HB 6798] which aims to ban the use of any product made of/or using styrofoam in schools because of its harmful effect on the environment.
Philippine Games and Sports Act of 2009 [HB 7103] which aims to enrich Philippine games in schools’ Physical Education curriculum.
